We usually like to find any way to get some furniture items in lower prices. Discounts have been so common and certainly there are many other ideas that we can try. I have two examples to share with you. First, we buy some unfinished items and then finish them by ourselves. Or, we can buy some used items and try to renew them by refinishing. Well, what message can you get from both of the examples? Yeah, the two examples share the same idea: painting. Such methods apply to all kinds of furniture, including if you want to buy some chest furniture.
I am here not to talk about how much we should pay for a cheap chest or furniture as a whole. But, I will talk about how to finish a chest, which can be applied to all other kinds of furniture as well.
There is an easy procedure to refinish a chest, which needs to be done step by step from the earliest phase to the final touch.
A chest, usually called a chest of drawers, needless to say, have drawers that need to be removed when the chest is about to be finished or refinished. Why does it need to be done? It is to remove the unpleasant odor out of there. It is also to avoid the smell produced by the new coat of paint from getting trapped inside.
Whenever you want to finish a chest furniture item or other wooden furniture pieces, to start with, you need to sand all of the surfaces. Sanding is necessary even when it comes to refinishing a finished chest. Even, in practice, sanding is more crucial to do if it is a readily-finished chest you are dealing with. Well, you need to remove the old finish before you apply the new one.
Wooden furniture finish deals with applying three layers or coats of finish, including primer paint, main paint, and lacquer/varnish. Meanwhile, the first coat is primer. The main purpose of it is to reinforce the attachment of the main paint.
The following step is to apply the main paint. Basically, such a layer of finish is the primary one, since the color produced with determines the appearance of the whole chest furniture as a whole.
Last but not least, it is lacquering becoming the last coat of finish that needs to be applied. Not only to give more protection to the paint but also to dramatize its look. Some other people may choose varnish or glaze to deal with the final touch. All in all, it is more about choice. You also need to take not that just in case you want to have a more natural piece of chest furniture, the primer and main paint can be left behind.
